Question : AGE LIMIT OF GENERAL DUTY SOLDIERS



(a) whether the Government has decided to increase the age limit of General Duty Soldiers;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE)

(a) to (c): Keeping in view the decision of the State Parties to the United Nations Protocol on `Convention on the Rights of the Child` of which Government of India is a member, it has been decided to raise the minimum age for recruitment of Soldier (General Duty) to 17.5 years.
