Question : WIDENING OF HIGHWAYS



(a) whether the Government has formulated a three-pronged approach for widening of highways by giving better compensation for acquisition, a special State rehabilitation package for the displaced and starting of work on highway bypasses where there would be least displacement;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the views of State Governments including Karnataka and other stake-holders have been solicited in this regard;

(d) if so, the response thereto; and

(e) the follow-up action taken thereon?

STATEMENT REERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 82 FOR ANSWER ON 28.11.2011 ASKED BY SHRI DHRUVA NARAYANA REGARDING WIDENING OF HIGHWAYS.

(a) & (b) No Sir. Land is acquired, as may be necessary, for National Highways under the provisions of the National Highways Act, 1956 and compensation is paid as per the provisions of the Act. There is no special State rehabilitation package formulated for starting of work on bypasses.

(c) to (e) Do not arise in view of above.
