Question : PREMIUM SPORTS LEAGUE



(a) whether the Government is aware that Premium Sports League matches are on the increase;

(b) if so, the details of such Sports League held in the country, sports discipline-wise;

(c) whether the Government has notified or is contemplating any regulations to control and supervise the sports league matches in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL)

(a) Yes, Madam.

(b) The details of sports leagues held in the country are given below:-

(i) Indian Premier League (IPL) for Cricket.

(ii) Prokabaddi League for Kabaddi.

(iii) Indian Super League (ISL) for Football.

(iv) Champions Tennis League (CTL) for Tennis.

(v) Indian Badminton League (IBL) for Badminton.

(vi) Hockey India League (HIL) for Hockey.

(c) & (d) Madam, the Sports Leagues involve city teams and are managed by private entities. In order to facilitate visa for participation of foreign players, this Ministry only considers grant of permission from sports angle at no cost to Government, subject to clearance of Ministry of External Affairs from political angle and Ministry of Home Affairs from security angle. This Ministry does not deal with any other matter relating to such leagues because national teams do not participate in these events.
