Question : IRREGULARITIES IN NMDC



(a) whether there have been instances of irregularities and neglect of rules resulting in huge losses to the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC);

(b) if so, the number of cases that have been reported during the last three years and the current year;

(c) the action taken by the Government against the erring officials of the NMDC and the contractors; and

(d) the corrective measures being taken by NMDC to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in future?

a)to(d): As and when complaints relating to irregularities in NMDC Limited are received, they are examined thoroughly and referred to the concerned authorities for taking appropriate action including corrective measures, if warranted. Recently, draft observations have been made by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) during the course of its Performance Audit relating to modalities of iron ore pricing by NMDC Limited. Necessary clarifications to these observations have been provided to the CAG. No further comments have been received from CAG.
