Question : Ayurveda System of Medicine

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government provides assistance to various institutions for research and processing in Ayurveda system of medicine;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the funds allocated to this sector during the last three years, State/UT-wise; and

(d) the details of the progress made by AIIMS set up in Rishikesh to carry out research in Ayurveda?

(a) to (c): Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH having 31 research centres across the country for undertaking research activities in Ayurveda. The Council is 100% financed by the Ministry. Ministry of AYUSH also runs a Central Sector Scheme of Extra Mural Research (EMR) since 11th Five Year Plan to support Research & Development projects undertaken by scientific and medical institutions. Funds for research in Ayurveda are provided directly to CCRAS and to individual project institutions. Allocation of funds during last three years to CCRAS and EMR Scheme for research in Ayurveda is as under:

EMR Scheme Rs. 2.49 crore Rs. 1.44 crore Rs. 1.26 crore

(d): There has been no funding for research to AIIMS, Rishikesh from Ministry of AYUSH.
