Question : INTEGRATED SLUM IMPROVEMENT HOUSING PROJECT



(a) whether the Government agencies have proposed an ambitious integrated slum improvement housing project for the rehabilitation of about 10,000 units from various parts of the capital at Narela in North Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether a high power committee has also been constituted in this regared;

(d) if so, the terms of reference of the committee;

(e) whether the Government have also planned to develop this area as industrial area to provide jobs to the slum dwellers; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. Slum & JJ Department (MCD) has been allocated about 35 hectare of land in different sectors of Narela for squatters rehabilitation programme. About 8909 squatter families are likely to be resettled there.

(c)&(d): No, Sir.

(e)&(f): Narela sub-city has been planned as an integrated township for a population of 1.2 million with work centres like commercial activities, Government offices, freight complex, warehousing, transport terminals, industries, etc. Government of Delhi (DSIDC) has also developed an industrial estate (247.0 ha.) and proposed a large industrial complex i.e. `Narela-Bawana Industrial Complex` which has been planned covering an area of 703 ha. (Phase-I). This would generate ample employment opportunities for the relocated slum dwellers.
