Question : Training Programme for Women Scriptwriters

(a) whether it is a fact that the Government is considering to provide training to all involved in the entertainment industry such as films, televisions, etc.;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has conducted a training for women scriptwriters and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether it is also a fact that the National Film Development Corporation has recently rolled out a virtual training programme for many women scriptwriters;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the success of the said training programme;

(f) whether the curriculum and course structure of the programme was developed by NFDC and if so, the details thereof; and

(g) whether the Government has a plan to continue the training programme for women scriptwriters and if so, the details thereof?

(a & b): Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India are providing training and education on films and television. The details of the training courses provided by them are available on websites of these Institutes at ftii.ac.in and srfti.ac.in.
(c): Yes, Sir. NFDC has conducted a Script Writing Workshop for 100 women scriptwriters. This was organized under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) activity under the Skill and Talent Development Division initiative. NFDC is recognized as an Awarding Body by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
(d & e): Yes, Sir. NFDC rolled out Scriptwriters’ Workshop for Women launched on 8th March, 2022 to mark the Women''s Day celebration.
The Scriptwriting Workshops are to be conducted in batches formulated based on application/submission received on the Skill NFDC website and portfolios received. The first batch commenced on 11th March, 2022. The duration of the course is 5 days x 4 hours (online) i.e. 20 hours. The course is conducted by trainers along with guest lecturers who are eminent scriptwriters from the industry.
Each batch is concluded with an assessment and awarding the candidates a certificate recognized by NFDC.
Subsequent to this, the candidates are to submit scripts to be considered for the Scriptwriters’ Lab.
The first batch of 23 candidates was selected amongst 160 applications and these 23 candidates successfully attended the Workshop.
(f & g): Yes, Sir. The proposed course structure includes knowledge and skills relating to character, conflict, transition, structure, style and visual writing. Methodology through which the course is imparted entails guided lessons, industry guest speaker sessions, Question & Answer sessions with students on pitches, screenplay writing and other diverse intervention in drafting scripts professionally.
