Question : REVENUE FROM AVIATION SECTOR



(a) the details of the revenue earned by the Government through aviation sector/airlines during the last three years;

(b) whether the revenue earned by the Government during the said period is not at par with the growth registered by the aviation sector; and

(c) if so, the reformative measures taken or being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): Government has earned Rs.1186.56 Crores, Rs.1344.13 Crores, Rs.1438.12Crores and Rs.1845.16 Crores (provisional) as revenue for the years 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively from Airports Authority of India by way of Dividend, Dividend Tax, Guarantee fees, Interest on Government Budgetary Support loan, Income Tax and Service Tax. Information in respect of Air India, Pawan Hans etc. are being obtained and will be laid on the Table of the House.

(b): Aviation Sector in India has experienced phenomenal growth during the recent years in terms of traffic growth in all the three segments i.e. passengers, freight and aircraft which has finally resulted in proportionate enhancement of revenue of the Government.

(c): Several steps have been initiated to further enhance the revenue by development of cargo activities, route optimization, enhancement of non-aeronautical revenue through revision of rates and awarding of contracts through master concessions, allowing operation of flying schools at non-operational airports, encouraging Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) activities and revision of base rates.
