Question : MODERNISATION UPGRADATION OF AIRPORTS



(a) the details of airports taken up for upgradation/modernisation in the country, both in metro and non-metro cities;

(b) the expenditure incurred during each of the last three years and the current year;

(c) the present status thereof, along with the time by which the work is likely to be completed airport-wise;

(d) whether the Government proposes to modernise/upgrade more airports including Sabeya airport near Mirganj in Bihar; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, State/UT and airport-wise?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED () QUESTION NO.10 FOR 7TH JULY, 2014 REGARDING MODERNISATION/UPGRADATION OF AIRPORTS

(a), (b) & (c): The details of Airports Authority of India (AAI) airports taken up for upgradation/modernisation in the country, both in metro and non-metro cities and the details of present status, expenditure incurred during each of the last three years along with the time by which the work is likely to be completed airport-wise, and state-wise is at Annexure I.

(d) & (e) : Yes, Madam. Modernisation/upgradation as well as development of airports is a continuous process and depends on various factors like availability of land free from all encumbrances, commercial viability and socio-economic consideration. However, as of now, there is no proposal to upgrade/modernise Sabeya Airport near Mirganj in Bihar.
