Question : COMPUTERISED IDENTITY CARDS FOR ESI BENEFICIARIES



(a) whether a large number of the ESI beneficiaries have been deprived of medical facilities for want of computerized Identity Cards within a stipulated period of 15 days from September 1, 2002 as per Government`s recent order;

(b) if so, whether most of the computerized identity card-making machines are out of order;

(c) if so, whether any responsibility has been fixed in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken or proposed to be taken to rectify the situation?

(a): No, Sir.

(b) to (d): The ordinary Identity Cards issued to ESI Beneficiaries are also honoured. The machines are working properly and the ESI Corporation is also taking the help of Private Agencies for preparation of Identity Cards. The Corporation has also issued instructions not to deny benefits for want of Photo Identity Cards.
