Question : Increasing the Time Duration of Regional Languages News Bulletins

(a) the various steps taken by the Government in pursuance to a direction to increase time allocated to news bulletins on radio broadcast and TV telecast in regional languages through Akashvani and Doordarshan and to improve the same;
(b) whether the Government proposes to promote broadcasting/telecasting of such bulletins to give more importance to various regional languages of the country;
(c) if so, the details thereof; and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE; AND MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR)
(a) to (d): Prasar Bharati has taken number of steps to increase the time allocated to news and current affair content on its various Regional Doordarsan Channels, and for increase of bulletins/Highlights on Radio. Prasar Bharati broadcasts 607 news bulletins daily in 92 Indian languages/local dialects and some foreign language on its AIR network.
All the regional content is accessible through the Prasar Bharati Global Digital Platform NewsOnAir, on more than 70 YouTube channels and the websites of DD, AIR, AIR News and DD News.
Besides, more than 250 social media handles have been activated by Prasar Bharati for real time updates through the day of news and current affairs in several languages from the various Kendras and Stations.
