(a) whether the Government has any proposal to lay a new railway line to Namakkal-Ariyalur and Thuraiyur in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(b) the total number of new railway line projects that has been proposed during this year across the country; and
(c) the total amount earmarked for these projects; project-wise?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4033 BY DR. T.R. PAARIVENDHAR TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 17.07.2019 REGARDING NEW RAILWAY LINE BETWEEN NAMAKKAL-ARIYALUR
(a): Survey for new railway line between Salem(Namakkal) and Karaikal via Ariyalur & Turaiyur was conducted during 2012-13. As per survey report the cost of the 227 Km long new line was assessed as ` 1443 crore. However, the proposed new line could not be taken forward due to unremunerative nature, and railways having large shelf of ongoing new line projects. However, new survey from Namakkal to Ariyalur has been sanctioned in 2018-19. Survey has been taken up.
(b) and (c): During last 4 years (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19) 53 new line projects have been included in the Budget book subject to requisite approvals. As on 01.04.2019, there are 189 new line works over Indian Railways which are in different stages of planning/ approval/ execution.
