Question : Natural Park and Sanctuaries

(a) whether it is a fact that use of technology, including e-surveillance through drones and modalities involving people around natural/national parks and sanctuaries in conservation efforts would be the key to the new National Wildlife Action Plan, 2017-2031 announced by the Government, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether it is also a fact that the plan has a roadmap to deal with poaching and illegal trade of animals, animal parts and management of tourism in wildlife areas, if so, the details thereof; and
(c) whether 2017-2031 National Action Plan, would be the third such plan, if so, the details thereof ?

(a) and (b) The National Wildlife Action Plan (2017-2031) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has been made with a view to have concerted approach for protection, conservation and management of wildlife through out the country. The Action Plan is divided into 17 chapters that also includes Chapters on ‘Strengthening and Improving Protected Area network’; ‘Control of Poaching and Illegal Trade in Wildlife’; and ‘People’s Participation in Wildlife’; ‘Management of Tourism in Wildlife Areas’. These Chapters takes note of use of modern technology and involvement of people in wildlife conservation including tourism in wildlife areas.

(c) The National Wildlife Action Plan (2017-2031) is the third Plan. The Government had previously brought out National Wildlife Action Plan in 1983 and 2002.
