THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE
(a) to (c): In order to enable handloom weavers to avail social security benefits, Government of India, Ministry of Textiles has been implementing Mahatama Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana (MGBBY) under the Handloom Weavers Comprehensive Welfare Scheme. The details of the scheme are as under:-
Mahatma Gandhi Bunkar Bima Yojana (MGBBY) provides life insurance cover to handloom weavers in case of natural death (Rs.60,000/-), accidental death (Rs.1,50,000/-) total disability (Rs.1,50,000/-) and partial disability (Rs.75,000/-). In addition, scholarship of Rs. 300/- per quarter per child is available to students studying in IX to XII standard or for a maximum period of four years, whichever event occurs earlier. The benefit is restricted to two children of the member covered. Under this scheme, annual premium is Rs. 470/- per weaver, out of which Govt. of India’s contribution is Rs. 290/-, weaver/worker’s contribution is Rs.80/- and contribution from Social Security Fund is Rs. 100/- per enrollment.
