(a) whether the Government have explained the total number of coal mines in the country;
(b) if so, the State-wise number thereof and the number out of these mines are under operation; and
(c) the estimated coal reserves therein and the quantity of coal production estimated on the basis of research in the country?

(a)& (b) The number of existing coal mines in the country is given below State-wise:-
State No. of existing coal mines(c): The coal reserves of India, upto the depth of 1200 meter have been estimated by the Geological Survey of India as 2,11,593.61 million tonnes as on 1.1.2000. The 1998-99 coal production in the country was 292.27 million tonnes. The coal production is targetted keeping in view the coal demand from the consumers.
