Question : INTER-CONNECTION OF COASTAL CITIES



(a) whether the Government plans to interconnect major coastal cities in India through road, rail, ports and airports;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether Government has announced any special development package for this purpose;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which the project will be commenced and completed?

(a)to(e): As per information received from Ministry of Railways, all important coastal cities including 12 Major Port Towns have rail connectivity to the arterial routes of Indian Railways to have access to the hinter-land. All 12 Major Ports are also connected by National Highways. Sagarmala Project to integrate all components i.e., port facilities, coastal ferry services, tourism infrastructure and inland water transportation, is a project to carry these components forward.
