Question : Tomato Cultivation

(a) the acreage of tomato cultivation in the country in hectares in each of the last three years including the current year, State-wise;
(b) the production of tomato in metric tonnes during the same period, year-wise and State-wise;
(c) the input and labour cost that goes into growing tomato per acre as per latest data available, State-wise;
(d) the State-wise average price per quintal of tomato received by farmers in the years 2018-19 and 2019-20; and
(e) the acreage of tomato cultivation and production in metric tonnes that Chittoor district accounted for in 2018-19 and 2019-20?

(a) & (b) The data on Area and Production of Tomato in the country, State-wise, in the last three years including current year, are given at Annexure-I
(c) The State-wise data on Input and Labour cost for growing Tomato, are not maintained by this Department. However, the Input and Labour cost for growing Tomato per acre, in Andhra Pradesh, as reported by Government of Andhra Pradesh, is Rs. 38500/- and Rs. 33800/-, respectively. The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru has reported the Input cost and Laour cost for growing Tomato (Hybrids) in Karnataka, as Rs. 44565.45/- and Rs. 38846.86/-, respectively.
(d) The State-wise annual Weighted average Wholesale price per quintal of Tomato for the year 2018-19 and 2019-20, reported at Agricultural Produce Market Committee(APMC) Mandis (where the farmers sell their produce) as reported by the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, of this Department, are given at Annexure-II.
(e) The area and production of Tomato in Chittoor district, for 2018-19 and 2019-20, as reported by Government of Andhra Pradesh, is as under:
