Question : Setting up of Krishi Vigyan Kendras

(a) whether the Government has received a proposal for opening up of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in various locations of Chhattisgarh through Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishavidyalaya;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government thereon;

(c) whether there is any proposal to extend the plan being sponsored by the department of Agriculture, Government of Chhattisgarh to provide rebate for boring of tubewell and for purchasing agriculture equipment/vehicle; and

(d) the total number of farmers who have been given grant for boring tubewell and for purchasing vehicle during 2015 and 2016 in the State, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. The Government has approved for establishment of 8 KVKs in Balod, Sukma, Kondagaon, Raipur, Mungeli, Surajpur, Bemetara and Durg (additional KVK) districts of Chhattisgarh during 12th Plan. For this purpose, proposals have been received by Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Jabalpur. The Site Selection Committee has visited sites proposed for six KVKs namely Mungeli, Balod, Kondagaon, Bemetara, Raipur and Durg (additional KVK). Proposals are yet to be received for Surajpur and Sukma districts for establishment of KVKs.


(c) & (d): The Division of Mechanization and Technology, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Government of India is implementing a Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) under the aegis of National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET) w.e.f. 2014-15 in all the States including Chhattisgarh with the objectives, (i) Increasing the reach of farm mechanization to small and marginal farmers and to the regions where availability of farm power is low; (ii) Promoting “Custom Hiring Centres” to offset the adverse economies of scale arising due to small landholding and high cost of individual ownership; (iii) Creating hubs for hi-tech and high value farm equipments; (iv) Creating awareness among stakeholders through demonstration and capacity building activities; (v) Ensuring performance testing and certification at designated testing centres located all over the country. Under this Sub-Mission, financial assistance is provided to the farmers for purchase of various agricultural equipments and machines including establishment of Farm Machinery Banks and Hi-tech Machinery Hubs for custom hiring services. For the purpose, Rs 4.00 crore and Rs. 9.29 crore have been released to the State Government of Chhattisgarh during the Year 2015-16 and 2016-17, respectively. Under Sub-Mission, funds are not provided for boring tube wells and purchase of vehicles. However, under Bringing Green Revolution in Eastern India (BGREI) scheme, provision exists for dugwell, borewell & shallow Tube well.
