Question : Neonatal Facility in Government Hospitals

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of Government Hospitals in the country that have neonatal facility at present;

(b) the number of districts in the country which have the said facility along with the State/UT-wise details thereof; and

(c) the time by which these hospitals are likely to be equipped with neonatal facility in each district of the country in case the said facility is not available therein?

(a) & (b): As per the reports received from the States/UTs, there are 887 Special Newborn Care Units (SNCU), 2421 Newborn Stabilization Units (NBSU) and 20,336 Newborn Care Corners (NBCC) in Government hospitals across the country. There are 602 districts with Special Newborn Care Units. The State/UT wise details are at Annexure.

(c): Government of India under Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) programme of National Health Mission is supporting establishment of Special Newborn Care Units (SNCU), Newborn Stabilization Units (NBSU) and Newborn Care Corners (NBCC) as per Facility Based Newborn Care guideline.

The support to States /UTs is provided for infrastructure, equipment, operational cost, human resource, trainings and monitoring & review for Facility Based Newborn Care based on the proposal received in annual Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs) of States /UTs.
