Question : High Level Meeting on Internal Security


(a) whether a high-level meeting on internal security was held to review the law and order situation in the country immediately after the formation of the new Government;

(b) if so, whether major discussions was held specifically with regard to terrorism, maoist and naxalities affected belts where periodical attacks have claimed lives of dozens of paramilitary personnel and civilians;

(c) whether the issue of coastal security which is a potential external threat to the country by infiltration through sea routes was also discussed;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to acquire modern equipments including radar for coastal security/monitoring and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): Review of internal security situation in the country is a regular and ongoing exercise, which includes review of issues of terrorism, left wing extremism and coastal security, and devising appropriate response thereto.
(e): Under the Coastal Security Scheme, 200 Coastal Police Stations equipped with 204 boats have been operationalised. In addition, 30 jetties, 284 four-wheelers, 554 two-wheelers, 97 check-posts, 58 out-posts, 30 barracks, navigation and communication equipment, detection equipment, card readers and equipment enhancing night operation capabilities of boats have been provided to the coastal States/ UTs.
