Question : Increasing Aadhaar Enrolment

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether it is a fact that Aadhaar number have jumped to more than 121 crore as on June 26, 2018;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether it is also true that a recent Supreme Court verdict was not in favour of universal application of Aadhaar; and

(d) if so, whether the Government is reconsidering its strategy on Aadhaar and if so, the details thereof?

(a) and (b): Yes, Sir. As on 26th June, 2018, 121.59 crore Aadhaar numbers have been generated.
(c) and (d): The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India heard the Writ Petition (Civil) 494 of 2012 in the matter of Justice K S Puttuswamy (Rtd) & Anr. Vs. UoI & Ors and batch of connected cases related to Aadhaar from 17.01.2018 to 10.05.2018. The judgement has been reserved.
