Question : PROMOTING THE REGIONAL LANGUAGES



(a) whether it is proposed to provide financial assistance for the teaching and promoting languages specified in the Eighth schedule of the Constitution and bringing out multilingual dictionaries;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a),(b) & (c): The Government is already implementing scheme for providing financial assistance to voluntary organizations for the development and propagation of all the languages. Included in the VIIIth Schedule of the Constitution. These schemes include, inter alia, financial assistance to non-Hindi speaking States/Uts for the appointment of Hindi to teachers and to Hindi speaking States/Uts for the appointment of Modern Indian languages teachers, appointment of Urdu teachers and Sanskrit teachers in secondary and senior Secondary Schools etc. Further, the Government have also established Institutions like Central institute of India languages, Mysore; Central Hindi Directorate, New Delhi, National Council for promotion of Urdu language, New Delhi; Commission for Scientific and technical terminology, New Delhi, National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language, Vadidara; Kendriya Hindi Shikshan Mandal, Agra; Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan, Ujjain , of these; the Central Hindi Directorate has brought our Bhartiya Bhasha Kosh in 14 languages & Tatsamshabad Kosh in 15 languages. The bilingual/ Multi- lingual dictionaries in various Indian languages. All these schemes are proposed to be continued in the Ninth Five year Plan.
