Question : Police Verification

(a) whether it is a fact that Police verification is not centralized or driven by a national database in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to introduce centralized and digitized database which is appropriately linked with Central, State and local agencies for tracking crime-related information; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be introduced?

(a) and (b): Yes Madam. Presently, Police verification is not centralized or driven by national database in the country.
(c) and (d): Yes Madam. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) during its meeting held on 18th November 2015 has approved the extension of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) Project up to March 2017 for project implementation with major revamp in the scheme. Central Citizen Portal is one of the key components of CCTNS Project. It envisages to provide online citizen services, like police verification services etc. The service is expected to be launched by end of March 2016.
