(a): Yes, Sir. The Transport Subsidy Scheme was introduced on 23rd July, 1971 to promote
industrialisation in hilly, remote and inaccessible areas of the country.
(b): The Scheme has been implemented in the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur,
Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh,
Uttarakhand, Darjeeling District of West Bengal, the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar
Islands and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
(c)&(d): A total amount of Rs.244.59 crore was released under the Scheme during the
last three years. State-wise details and the number of beneficiary units are at Annexure âAâ.
(e)&(f): The Transport Subsidy Scheme, 1971 is under evaluation by the Planning
Commission.
