(a) whether the Government has noticed that a number of elected representatives of various Panchayati Raj bodies were killed in Jammu & Kashmir by militants;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken to ensure the safety of elected representatives of local Self Governments of the State?

(a) and (b) As reported by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, 6 elected representatives of various Panchayati Raj bodies have been killed in Jammu & Kashmir by militants. The details are attached at Annexure.
(c) The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has reported that the administration has, in coordination with the security agencies, taken requisite steps to provide a secure environment to the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions, which includes provision of individual security based on vulnerability to threat, security during tours by these representatives. They are also accommodated at various cluster locations within respective district headquarters.
