Question : Slum Area


Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION be pleased to state:

(a) the total area of slum clusters in Mumbai and Nagpur, cluster-wise and its percentage in the total area of Mumbai;

(b) the number of people residing in these slum clusters;

(c) the percentage of these people out of the total population of Mumbai;

(d) whether any decline has been registered in the slum population of Mumbai; and

(e) the details of proposed action plan to remove slum clusters in Mumbai?

(a) to (d): As per Office of Registrar General of India, the urban and slum population of Greater Mumbai and Nagpur as per Census 2011 and 2011 are mentioned below:

(e): Housing and Slum are State subjects. The Central Government through its schemes assist the State Government in addressing the housing shortage of its citizens. In pursuance of the Government’s vision of facilitating housing to all by 2022, the Government has launched “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) –Housing for All (HFA) (Urban)” Mission on 25.06.2015 with “In-situ Slum Redevelopment through private participation using land as resource” as one of the four components under the Mission.
