Question : CONSTRUCTION WORK ON NH-16



(a) whether the pace of construction work on the National Highway-16 is very slow;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(c) the effective steps taken by the Government for completion of the construction work of the said highway?

(a & b) National Highway No. 16 (Nizamabad-Jagdalpur road) aggregating to a length of 505 km passes through States of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Out of this, 288 km has been entrusted by the Ministry to Border Roads Organisation ( BRO) for development. The pace of construction work has been badly hampered in the naxalite affected stretches of this National Highway with BRO in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

(c) BRO is executing the works with the help of local security provided by the State Governments particularly under the policy of “Area Dominance” implemented by the State of Chhattisgarh.
