MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE
(DR. MAHESH SHARMA)
(a) & (b) Yes Madam. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has allocated funds to the States for the development and increasing of green cover under two Centrally Sponsored Schemes viz., National Afforestation Programme (NAP) and National Mission for a Green India (GIM). While NAP is implemented for afforestation of degraded forest lands with participatory approach, GIM which is one of the eight Missions outlined under the National Action Plan on Climate Change, aims at protecting, restoring and enhancing India’s forest cover on landscape basis. The State/UT wise details of funds released during the last four years (2014-15 to 2017-18) under NAP and GIM are given in Annexure.
