Question : Regulation of Fee in Private Schools

(a) whether the Government proposes to regulate the admission and ensure transparency in fee structure in private and Government aided private schools and if so, the details thereof;
(b) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) whether the Government has taken up the matter with the private educational institutions and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) The Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), the highest advisory body to advise the Central and State Governments in the field of education, in its meeting held on 7th June, 2011, expressed concerns about adoption of unfair practices in schools and agreed to initiate a legislative proposal for prohibiting unfair practices which includes regulation of admissions and transparency in fee structure. In this regard, a CABE Sub-Committee has been set up to formulate draft legislation to prohibit unfair practices in school education sector.
