(a) whether the Government has launched inclusive education programme for mentally challenged children under SSA;

(b) if so,the details thereof;and

(c) the amount earmarked,allocated and utilized under the scheme during each of the last three years and the current year,State-wise?

(a)and(b): The Framework for Implementation under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan provides for inclusive education for children with special needs in the 6-14 years age group.Rs. 1200/- per child per year is provided over and above other SSA interventions,to meet the educational requirements of such children.The interventions under SSA for inclusive education include, inter alia,identification of such children by category of disability,their functional and formal medical assessment,appropriate educational placement in schools,home based education or bridge courses,preparation of individualized educational plans,provision of aids and appliances,teacher training,resource support,removal of architectural barriers such as ramps etc.and monitoring and evaluation.

(c): The State and Union Territory-wise funds utilized for inclusive education during each of the last three years and the current year (upto June, 08) is at Annexure–I.
