(a)& (b): Mineral Concessions are granted by the
respective State Governments who are the owners of the minerals
in their territorial jurisdiction, as per the provisions of
Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957 and the
Rules framed thereunder. The Central Government does not
undertake any mining work directly. The number of new mines
opened in the last three years upto 31.3.2000, State-wise is
given at Annexure.
