MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI UPENDRA KUSHWAHA)
(a) & (b) The Navodaya Vidyalaya scheme provides for opening of one Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalaya (JNV) in each district of the country. Opening of new JNVs is a continuous process
which depends on the willingness of the concerned State Government/ Union Territories
Administrations in making available requisite land free of cost for construction of school
buildings and rent free temporary accommodation to start the Vidyalaya. Actual sanction and
opening of the new JNV depends on the availability of funds and approval by Competent
Authority. As on date, one JNV is sanctioned at Minicoy in Lakshadweep and is functioning
smoothly from its permanent campus.
Proposals for opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are considered only if
sponsored by the eligible agencies committing resources for setting up a new KV as well as
on the availability of necessary sanction of the Government. As on date, one KV is
functioning at Kavaratti, Lakshadweep.
(c) One letter had been received from the Hon’ble Member of Parliament from
Lakshadweep in June, 2015 requesting for opening of one more JNV or KV in the islands of
Lakshadweep other than Kavaratti and Minicoy islands, to which a reply has already been
sent on the above lines.
