Question : Death of Foreign and Indian Nationals due to COVID

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government maintains any data on the total number of deaths of foreigners due to COVID- 19 across the country since its spread;
(b) if so, the details of the deaths of such foreign nationals reported so far, country-wise;
(c) the total number of deaths of Indian nationals abroad due to COVID-19 since its origin, country-wise; and
(d) whether any assistance is being given by the Government to the family of the deceased and if so, the details thereof?

Answer given by the minister

(a) & (b): No such centralized data on total number of deaths of foreigners due to COVID-19 across the country is maintained by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
(c): As informed by Ministry of External Affairs, a total of 2072 Indian Nationals abroad died due to COVID-19. A country-wise detail is given at Annexure.
(d): As far as death of Indian nationals abroad is concerned, Government of India’s Missions arranged for the welfare of Indian nationals, where required, including through Indian community associations. In some cases, arrangements were also made for boarding, lodging and emergency medical assistance under the Indian Community Welfare Fund.
