(a) & (b): Department of Land Resources in the Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the scheme of Drought Prone Areas Programme (DPAP) in various States. According to them, DPAP is a Centrally Sponsored Programme and its implemented in identified blocks and projects in these blocks are sanctioned based on certain criteria. From 1.4.1999, the funding pattern is 75:25 between Central Government and State Governments and this applies to projects sanctioned from 1.4.1999 onwards. The objectives of the programme include

(i) development of drought prone areas on watershed basis keeping in view capability of land, site conditions and local needs and

(ii) to mitigate the adverse effects of extreme climatic conditions such as drought on crops, human and livestock population for their overall improvement. Under this programme, no State-wise allocation of funds is made and no demand is projected by the States. State-wise details of funds released under this programme during 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 (so far) is annexed.
