Question : SUSPENSION OF QAZIGUND-BARAMULLA RAIL PROJECT



(a) whether the Indian Railway Construction (IRCON) has suspended the work at the prestigious Qazigund-Baramulla railway project by withdrawing its engineers after the murder of its engineer Sudhir Kumar and his brother by terrorists ;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken to provide adequate security to IRCON employees and to resume the work on the project?

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) : On 23.06.2004 Shri Sudhir Kumar and his brother were kidnapped and brutally murdered as found on 25.06.2004. Thereafter IRCON Engineers were withdrawn from the project for want of adequate security.

(c) : Matter has been taken up with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide adequate security.
