Question : AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is aware that all the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) proposed to be set up in various parts of the country are unlikely to be started in the near future;

(b) if so, the State/UT-wise details thereof including the State of Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir, if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the details of the development stages at which these AIIMS are;

(d) whether a Central team has been deployed to visit the place and assess about the suitability of the place, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the Government will issue necessary orders at an early date so that the institute can start functioning from this year itself, if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER

(a) to (e):
1. Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), 6 AIIMS have been made functional. List can be seen at Annexure-I. 14 more AIIMS are being set up under PMSSY.
2. The construction period of AIIMS is usually 45-60 months. The functioning of AIIMS can start only after the construction of the building is completed and the equipments are in place.
3. AIIMS in Kerala has not been announced in any budget announcements.
Pre-investment activities for AIIMS at Vijaypur (Jammu) and Awantipora (Kashmir) have been initiated.
4. Detailed status of the AIIMS to be set up is attached as Annexure-II.
5. Before finalization of the site for establishment of AIIMS, a Central team is deputed by the Ministry to inspect and assess the suitability of the sites offered by the State Government.
