Question : VISIT OF INDIAN DELEGATION TO CHINA



(a) whether an Indian delegation including the Chief of Army Staff visited China recently;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the major issues discussed with China;

(c) whether any agreement / Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for peaceful border management between the two countries;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the other steps being taken or proposes to be taken by the Government for maintaining peace and security along Indo-China border areas?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI ARUN JAITLEY)

(a) to (d): Yes, Madam. Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited China from 2-5 July 2014 and held discussions on a wide range of issues of defence and security. No Agreement / Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the visit.

(e) India has signed Agreements in past with China for maintenance of peace and tranquility on the India-China border. Further, Government takes adequate measures to safeguard the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security by reviewing the threat perception from time to time.
