Question : TRAINING TO BSF JAWANS



(a) whether the specific additional training on designs of terrorists and infiltrators have been added in the training operation curriculum of the Border Security Force Jawans;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the BSF Jawans working in desert areas of Western India specially in Rajasthan, who are to guard our borders riding on camels have been given special training in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government propose to train the Border Security Force on the lines of Army to combat terrorism operations;

(f) if so, the details thereof;

(g) whether the Army officials can be asked to command the Border Security Force specially in the borders of Jammu and Kashmir and the entire North Eastern States, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal; and

(h) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): The modernisation and upgradation of training of CPMFs including BSF is an ongoing process. Based on operational requirements, the training curriculum has been revised and updated to meet the challenges. Training in tackling of terrorists and infiltrators is an integral part of basic training of officers, sub-ordinate officers & Jawans.

(c) & (d): yes, Sir. The camels are being used in Rajasthan border in view of the specific terrain and the Force personnel are provided appropriate training to handle them efficiently.

(e) & (f): BSF is a border guarding Force and is trained for their primary role in the training institutions of the Force. Specialised training in various fields including counter terrorism is also imparted in the training institutions of the Force. In case of need, BSF personnel are also sent for training purpose to training institutions of other CPMFs and Army.

(g) & (h): All the posts in BSF are filled up in accordance with the statutory rules. BSF leaderships consists of the cadre officers, who have risen from the ranks and IPS officers. Commanders of the Force are competent to lead the Force. There is no proposal to ask Army officials to command the Force.
