Question : Ratio of Children

(a) whether the ratio of children opting for higher studies has remained unsatisfactory and if so,
the details thereof;
(b) whether according to All India Higher Education Survey, more girls are now going to
college than male students and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government is aware that in several States, women outnumbered men in higher
education; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Ministry of Human Resource Development is conducting All India Survey on Higher
Education (AISHE) on annual basis to assess the progress made in the higher education sector in
India. As per AISHE, Gross Enrolment Ratio of children opting for higher education has
increased in last three years from 24.3 in 2014-15 to 25.2 in 2016-17.
(b) to (d): As per AISHE 2016-17, total number of enrolment in higher education for male and
female has been measured at 18980595 and 16725310 respectively. State-wise enrolment for
male and female is given at Annexure.
