Question : Setu Bharatam Scheme

(a) whether the Government has launched a Setu Bharatam Scheme for building bridges and rail over-bridges on national highways across the country, if so, the details thereof,

(b) whether the Government provides grants to the States and the Union Territory for development of roads and bridges under the schemes of inter-state connectivity and economic importance, if so, the details thereof along with the criteria for sanctioning funds under the said schemes;

(c) the details of the proposal submitted by the various State Governments in this regard during each of the last two years State/UT-wise;

(d) the details of the construction work approved in the country, project-wise and State-wise; and

(e) the details of the expenditure incurred on construction and maintenance of the bridges and non-bridges on the national highways in the country during the last two years, State-wise?

(a): Yes Madam. In order to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic, Ministry has envisaged a plan for replacement of all the Level Crossings on National Highways by ROBs/RUBs and replacement/widening/strengthening of weak and narrow bridges under a scheme Setu Bharatam.

(b): Yes Madam. Government provides the grants to States and the Union Territory for the development of Roads and Bridges under the schemes of interstate connectivity (ISC) and economic importance (EI) as per criteria mentioned in CRF Rule 2014.
