Question : POWER FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES



(a) whether the Government proposes to develop new technology for cost effective generation of power from the renewable energy sources in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the current position of India vis-à-vis other developed countries in the generation of power from these sources;

(d) whether a number of proposals from State Governments for generation of power through renewable energy sources are still pending with the Government;

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and

(f) the time by which these proposals are likely to be cleared?

(a)&(b): The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is promoting power generation through various renewable energy sources. So far, 35,777 MW grid power capacity has been installed in the country from renewable energy sources comprising 23,444 MW from wind, 3,744 MW from solar, 4534 MW from bio- energy and 4055 MW from small hydro power.

(c): As per ‘Renewables-2014 Global Status Report’ –‘REN21’, the position of India in total capacity generation of renewable energy as of 2013 was 5th in respect of other countries.

(d),(e)&(f): The proposals for setting up of renewable energy projects are received in MNRE for sanction of the eligible Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under various schemes and programmes. Such proposals are received on a regular basis and those found complete in all respects as per guidelines are approved for sanction of eligible CFA. This is done in a time bound manner and the process for such approvals is specified in the schemes.
