Question : PPP for Transport Infrastructure

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:

(a) the planned strategy for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) for urban transport infrastructure investment in cities with population of 100,000 or more;

(b) whether any ratio has been arrived at for the State/ private participation; and

(c) the monitoring mechanism adopted to ensure quality and scale of participation of the private sector?

(a) to (c): Ministry of Urban Development has issued an advisory to all State Governments to intensely explore PPP models in implementation of metro rail projects vide letter No. K- 14011/3/2013-Metro/MRTS-II on 25th August, 2014. Financial assistance from Government of India to Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) projects prepared/ being implemented including that on PPP model is done under National Urban Transport Policy, 2006. The monitoring mechanism to ensure quality and scale of participation of the private sector is ensured by the concessioning authority of MRTS projects.
