Question : COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR MAHARASHTRA



(a) whether a coastal zone management plan for the State of Maharashtra has been under consideration of Government since March, 1995;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the estimated cost and the stage at which it stands at present also indicating the progress made in clearance thereof?

(a)&(b): The Government of Maharashtra had submitted the Coastal Zone Management Plan of Maharashtra on 22nd November, 1995, which was approved by this Ministry on 27th September, 1996 with certain general and specific conditions. The Government of Maharashtra was requested to submit the revised Coastal Zone Management Plan of Maharashtra within a period of two months. The revised Coastal Zone Management Plans (CZMPs) for Greater Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, were received in November, 1998.

(c): The Coastal Zone Management Plan does not include financial details. This Ministry has approved the revised Coastal Zone Management Plan of Greater Mumbai with certain conditions on 20th January, 2000. In respect of Navi Mumbai, additional information sought from Government of Maharashtra is still awaited.
