Question : ESTABLISHMENT OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDA MEDICAL SCIENCES



(a) whether Kerala has proposed to set up an International Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, as a Centre of Excellence of International standards for specialised treatment and also equipped to handle intellectual property rights, at State capital thereof;

(b) if so , the details including the estimated cost and salient features thereof;

(c) whether the Union Government will take a decision to support this unique project; and

(d) if so , the details thereof?

(a) to (d) Ministry has received a proposal for setting up of an International Institute of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram. The proposal interalia included provisions for a 500 bedded Ayurveda Hospital, Training Centre, R&D Centre, Conservation and Gene Bank, Extension activities, Digital Library, Documentation Centre and Museum, etc. with an estimated cost of Rs. 101.60 crore.

There is no scheme under which the proposal could be sanctioned. The proposal, therefore, has not been agreed to.
