Question : FUNDS FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES



(a) whether the Government is contemplating to allocate the funds of rural development schemes directly to the districts and fix the responsibility of the district administration for this work;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the reaction of the Government thereto ?

(a) to (d): The central allocation of funds under the schemes of the Ministry of Rural Development are released as per the programme guidelines. Mostly the Central Funds are released to the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs) and Zilla Parishads/Panchayats, but the funds are also released to the State Governments,State Rural Employment Guarantee Fund, State Rural Road Development Agency (SRRDA) and District Water and Sanitation Committees.
