(a) whether the Government has formulated any plan to enhance the power
generation capacity of Thermal Power Plants in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has also contemplated to take up the renovation work of
the Thermal Power Plants besides enhancing their capacity; and
(d) if so, the time frame fixed for this purpose?

(a) : Yes, Sir.
(b) : As per 10th Plan capacity addition programme, 25417 MW of thermal
capacity was envisaged to be added at the beginning of the Plan. During the mid term
appraisal and subsequent reviews, it is targeted to add 21230.17 MW during the 10th Plan.
The details of the capacity addition are furnished as under:-
1. Projects already commissioned: 8999.25 MW
2. Projects under construction: 12230.92 MW
Total Thermal Capacity Likely to be added during 10th Plan: 21230.17 MW
