(a) whether the Railways have any proposal to start gauge conversion work between
Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur and Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai;
(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the estimated cost of the project; and
(c) the time by which the work is likely to be started/completed?

(a) to (c): Gauge conversion of Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur and Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai
sections have already been taken up as part of Quilon-Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur & Tenkasi-
Virudhunagar and Thanjavur-Villupuram gauge conversion projects respectively. Anticipated
cost of these projects is Rs.697.13 crore and Rs.356.90 crore respectively.
Works have already been taken up and are targeted for completion during 2007-08.
