Question : TRAINING CENTRES IN KARNATAKA



(a) the number of training centres have been set up by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Karnataka;

(b) the places in that State where these training centres have been set up by SAI;

(c) whether the Government propose to set up any new training centres to train the rural sports persons in Karnataka in 2003-2004; and

(d) if so, the details of the proposal mooted by the Government in that regard?

(a)&(b): At present there are six training Centres being run in the State of Karnataka by Sports Authority of India (SAI) as per the details given below: -

1.	National Sports Talent Contest Scheme (NSTC) - St. Joseph`s Indian High School, Bangalore

2. Army Boys Sports Company Scheme (ABSC) - MEG, Bangalore

3. SAI Training Centre (STC) at
(i) Dharward
(ii) Medikeri
(iii) Bangalore
4. Center Of Excellence Scheme (COX) -Bangalore


(c) As per Govt. of India Policy, for establishment of a sports centre in a particular State, the concerned State Government has to submit a comprehensive proposal to Sports Authority of India, where in they have to provide free of cost suitable residential accommodation and playing facilities. The Sports Authority of India has received no such proposal at present from the Government of Karnataka.
