Question : EXTRACTION OF LIGNITE



(a) whether a huge reserve of lignite has been found at Garl, Kapurdi and Jalipa in Barmer district of Rajasthan;

(b) if so, whether the Government have drawn up any comprehensive plan for the extraction of Lignite in these areas; and

(c) if so, details thereof?

a) Yes sir. The details furnished by Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. are given below:-

b) & c) Giral block is already operational and M/s RSMDC is mining lignite at Giral from May’ 1995. A proposal for its expansion is under examination. Kapurdi and Jalipa blocks have already been explored and the government has received a proposal for allotting these blocks to an Independent Power Producer (IPP) for power generation. The proposal will be processed after the IPP produces an in- principle clearance from the Ministry of Power and clears or agrees to clear the exploration charges to Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd.
