(a) to (c): Yes, Madam. The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) Project has been launched
in June 2009. This Project, which is proposed to be implemented as a Mission Mode Project, aims at creating
a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing at police
station level through adoption of principles of e-Governance by creation of a nationwide networked
infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled state-ofâthe-art tracking system around âinvestigation
of crime and detection of criminalsâ. The total estimated cost of this Project is Rs 2000 Crore
during the 11th Five Year Plan. Under the Project, about 14000 Police Stations and 6000 other
police offices at various levels would be connected through this computer network.
(d): Rs. 115.79 Crore during 2009-10 and Rs. 67.49 Crore during the year 2010-11 has been released
to the States and Union Territories till date. The number of police Stations, State -wise, and the
amount released till date, State-wise, is at Annexure.
(e): Training infrastructure at the District Headquarters, Regional Police Training Colleges (RPTC), State
Crime Records Bureau, Recruit Training Centres/ Police Training Colleges, are being strengthened. While
training of personnel in Awareness and Sensitisation of benefits of IT, and training of trainers are
underway, System Administration & Support Training and application training shall be undertaken at
the appropriate time.
